What You Need to Legally Sell Cars in Ohio
Ohio is a car lot state…meaning most of the places that satisfy the location requirements are a car lot.
In Ohio, you need:Ā
- AnĀ office of at least 180 square feet and a display lot of at least 3,500 square feet
- Zoning Approval
- A desk, three chairs and locking filing cabinet
- A telephone in service at all times that is answered in the dealership's name, with the business telephone number posted in a conspicuous place in public view.
- A permanent sign in the registered name of the business as it appears on the application, with letters of at least six inches high.
- AĀ used motor vehicle training course
- A surety bond
- A registered business
- Fingerprints
For past arrests, these are the disqualifying offenses
Although Ohio requires a bigger space to get started, it’s not impossible.Ā
And harder requirements mean less competition at the auctions and for customers.
